Halloween… aka one of the best times of the year. You’ve got the spooks, the treats and the tricks, the chills, the pumpkins, the movies, etc. I could go on and on about everything that Halloween brings along.
I mean, who could forget about the costumes? It’s the highlight for many people, and college kids are no different. There are parties, nights out, and haunted houses.
I’m someone who likes getting spooked out every now and then. This year I finally went to my first haunted house (four if we’re being specific). Six Flags Fright Fest was the place to be.
I went to Fright Fest with two of my roommates; one whose idea this was and one who doesn’t do scary things at all. Great mix of the bag if you will. We were prepared for the spooks and screams. Getting chased by men in costumes? Yeah, that happened a few times there (great job scare actors, 10/10 screams)!
But one of the best parts of the Halloween season? Movies.
For starters, I’m a sucker for a scary movie, mostly because I know it’s not real. I can turn off a movie at any point if I’m too scared, or I can end it knowing it’ll stay on screen. But then there’s also the feel-good Halloween movies. The ones you watch with your friends or family every year and feel nostalgic the whole time.
There are the classics: Hocus Pocus (1993), Halloweentown (1998) (let’s be real the whole series), and Beetlejuice (1988). For all the 2000s babies, we have to throw Monster House (2006). Truly a movie that freaked me out as a kid.
And it’s only fair to throw classic horror movies out there too: Scream (1996), The Shining (1980), The Ring (1998), and Jeepers Creepers (2001). I haven’t heard many people talk about the last one but the chills it gave me… no (in the best of ways). There a bunch more movies I could give you, but these are my staples that continue to send chills down my spine every year I watch.
Tomorrow is the day! The day to get treats (or tricks), for the spookiest movies, the ultimate costume, or, for those who like to stay in and away from the scary things, the coziest night in with a hot chocolate in hand.
Share your favorite Halloween movies, costumes, books, songs, foods, or whatever else you may love with me in a message!
Have a safe and happy (maybe even spooky) Halloween <3!!
