I’m a believer that everyone should write. Not write a novel, a blog, or anything in between, but write a little something every day.
That’s not to say you shouldn’t or can’t!!
It is daunting, however, to hear someone say people should write every day.
Journaling is one of the best ways to write a little bit every day. It gets your brain thinking. A lot of people say they don’t know what to journal. Fair enough.

Getting a journal style you like is the first step. Maybe one with flowers or a bright color on the outside, or one that’s sleek and neutral. The inside is just as important to consider. I prefer lined paper so my sentences are straight, but there’s also dotted paper, grids, or blank paper.
I tried the bullet point journal method, but it was too time-consuming making all the squares and grids and making it all pretty and colorful. While it works for some, it wasn’t for me. I prefer something much simpler and carefree. I like my journaling to not be planned/mapped out.
Journaling is about writing out your thoughts or whatever comes to mind. It can be gibberish, inconsistent thoughts, or journaling can be mapped out and more deliberate writing. The point is to get something on paper.
It’s a great stress reliever to get out thoughts and fears you may not be able to vocalize. It’s helpful to write out moments in your day that are weighing down on your mind. It may be school course load, work stress, friends, family, or some internal conflict. I can almost guarantee you’ll feel even the smallest bit better if you write it out.
If you’re an aspiring writer, writing every day is the best kind of practice you can ask for. Even just 15 minutes a day. Setting aside 15 minutes a day is great practice for everyone. Those 15 minutes are dedicated to you and your thoughts alone.
To me, journaling is one of the best forms of mindfulness I practice. It’s when I take the time to sit with myself and my thoughts, let them exist, and write them out. The pressure of college and life easily gets to me, and journaling/writing has held up as the best stress reducer in my life.
I write all the time for classes, for blogging, and for practice. It’s different than journaling. That type of writing has a certain pressure placed on me every time. Journaling is pressure-free and care-free. It’s meant for everyone and anyone who wants to give it a try. So go ahead and give it a try if you haven’t (and if you have, give it another go)!
As always, have a fantabulous week <3!
