A New Adventure

I want to kick this adventure off with a nice little introduction. My name is Sarah and I am 22 year old college student entering my senior year at my favorite place. It’s a wild, exciting, and fun time, BUT it’s also absolutely terrifying. Life is going to look different a year from now. In about 8 months I’ll be saying goodbye to my dear friends as we go on to live our lives and enter careers that we’re unsure of right now (fun!). Everything about it the next stage of life is dangling right in front of me. The hunt for a full-time job is on while juggling classes and trying to keep up a social life. So in the meantime (really, spare time), it’s time to take risks in my last year and try new things. I’ve thought about blogging for months but never thought I would try it. Yet, here I am committing to something I’m still learning and wondering if I can do this.

I grew up writing fun little paragraphs in classes that I never thought twice about. It wasn’t until college that I began to explore and take my writing more seriously. I’m an English major with an emphasis in creative writing. The first question I’m always asked (and really dislike) is “What do you plan to do with that degree?”. I’ll save the answer for another time, but really there’s a lot you can do. Registering for creative writing classes really broadened my capabilities and pushed me to try new things in writing. Writing is my outlet in life. Translating thoughts and ideas into poems is freeing and prose allows me to get lost in my own world. The joy I find in creating things is what sparked me to create a blog. So while I’ll mainly focus on posting blogs, I plan to feature some other works of mine.

When I began to collect ideas for what my blog would be about, I kept circling back to three main ideas. Life as a senior in college, being on the cusp of entering the workforce (aka fully adulting), and what it’s like as a Gen Z trying to navigate the world in this day and age. Ideas are ever evolving and as I grow my writing will evolve all the same. I hope to make you laugh, relate, and think about life from a different angle sometimes, even if you can’t relate to it. I want to highlight the difficult parts of this age and explore different paths people take. This adventure of mine is new and old  at the same time. Ever since I started thinking about blogging months ago, so many different themes, ideas, colors, and images floated in and out of my mind. It took a surprise ending of my summer to push me into writing down ideas and committing to something. It feels like a fever dream now that it’s out for you all to read… and I can only hope you’ll stick around ;)!

I’m excited (and a tad terrified) to document my journey, make mistakes, and grow in my writing. Here’s to launching a website dedicated to blogging my adventures, both new and old.
